BD-HP90U BD-HP90U SAFETY PRECAUTION Service Manual IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTES IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTES i BD-HP90U IMPORTANT SERVICE SAFETY PRECAUTION Service work should be performed only by qualified service technicians who are thoroughly familiar with all safety checks and the servicing guidelines which follow: WARNING Use an AC voltmeter having with 5000 ohm per volt, or higher, sensitivity or measure the AC voltage drop across the resistor. 1. For continued safety, no modification of any circuit should be attempted. Connect the resistor connection to all exposed metal parts having a return to the chassis (antenna, metal cabinet, screw heads, knobs and control shafts, escutcheon, etc.) and measure the AC voltage drop across the resistor. 2. Disconnect AC power before servicing. All checks must be repeated with the AC cord plug connection reversed. (If necessary, a nonpolarized adaptor plug must be used only for the purpose of completing these checks.) CONNECT TO KNOWN EARTH GROUND Using two clip leads, connect a 1.5k ohm, 10 watt resistor paralleled by a 0.15 F capacitor in series with all exposed metal cabinet parts and a known earth ground, such as electrical conduit or electrical ground connected to an earth ground. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// SAFETY NOTICE Many electrical and mechanical parts in BD player have special safety -related characteristics. For continued protection, replacement parts must be identical to those used in the original circuit. These characteristics are often not evident from visual inspection, nor can protection afforded by them be necessarily increased by using replacement components rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc. The use of a substitute replacement parts which do not have the same safety characteristics as the factory recommended replacement parts shown in this service manual, may create shock, fire or other hazards. Replacement parts which have these special safety characteristics are identified in this manual; electrical components having such features are identified by " " and shaded areas in the Replacement Parts List and Schematic Diagrams. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ii BD-HP90U Precautions for using lead-free solder Employing lead-free solder • “All PWBs” of this model employs lead-free solder. The LF symbol indicates lead-free solder, and is attached on the PWBs and service manuals. The alphabetical character following LF shows the type of lead-free solder. Example: L F a/a LFa Indicates lead-free solder of tin, silver and copper. Indicates lead-free solder of tin, silver and copper. Using lead-free wire solder • When fixing the PWB soldered with the lead-free solder, apply lead-free wire solder. Repairing with conventional lead wire solder may cause damage or accident due to cracks. As the melting point of lead-free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu) is higher than the lead wire solder by 40 °C, we recommend you to use a dedicated soldering bit, if you are not familiar with how to obtain lead-free wire solder or soldering bit, contact our service station or service branch in your area. Soldering • As the melting point of lead-free solder (Sn-Ag-Cu) is about 220 °C which is higher than the conventional lead solder by 40 °C, and as it has poor solder wettability, you may be apt to keep the soldering bit in contact with the PWB for extended period of time. However, Since the land may be peeled off or the maximum heat-resistance temperature of parts may be exceeded, remove the bit from the PWB as soon as you confirm the steady soldering condition. Lead-free solder contains more tin, and the end of the soldering bit may be easily corroded. Make sure to turn on and off the power of the bit as required. If a different type of solder stays on the tip of the soldering bit, it is alloyed with lead-free solder. Clean the bit after every use of it. When the tip of the soldering bit is blackened during use, file it with steel wool or fine sandpaper. • Be careful when replacing parts with polarity indication on the PWB silk. This function allows TVs compatible with AQUOS LINK to also perform a Key Lock on the player. (Lock) for more than 2 seconds. Press and hold • Each time you perform this operation, the function is activated or deactivated. In such cases, the BD/DVD/CD mode indicator blinks. • When operating the player in a status where the keylock functions is set, the BD/DVD/CD mode indicator will blink for approximately 2 seconds. 33 34 NOTE • This remote control unit is equipped with two ENTER buttons (5 and 31 listed above). Before replacing the main PWB, check up the software version. If its version is out of date, get it updated. 2. The IC7208, IC7806 and IC2504 have their own BD cryptography keys and programs already written on. For this reason, they cannot be individually replaced with new ones. [3] SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM USB MEMORY DEVICE Consult with your Services Company as we cannot provide the upgrading software. [Preparation] • The USB memory device must be clear of all files except software update data to allow new software uploading. • Do not extract the firmware update file to any folders other than the root directory on the USB memory device. The firmware update file must be only one file directly in the root directory. • When software update data is released, copy the data onto a USB memory device after downloading it to a PC. [HOW TO UPDATE] 1. When you insert a USB memory device, be sure to turn the main power off. 2. Insert the USB memory device with the update file into the USB terminal on this player. 3. Press POWER to turn on the power. 4. The current version of this unit software and the version of the update file on the USB memory device are displayed. To update this player software with update file, select “Yes”, and press ENTER. NOTE: If the USB memory device is not properly installed or the correct update file cannot be found on the USB memory device, an error message is displayed. Check the file on the USB memory device, and then reinsert the USB memory device correctly. 5. When the software is successfully updated, a screen is displayed indicating that the update process is completed. If the update has failed, check the file in the USB device and try Software Update again. 6. Remove the USB memory device. 7. Press POWER to turn off the player. 3–3 BD-HP90U Service CHAPTER 4. YES Is the power turned off soon? NO Check Pin 85 of IC2504 (FuCon). YES Is the 12V input fed to Pin 1 of J9002? YES Are the following output voltages available at the TLs? TL9019: 5V TL9016: 1.2V TL9017: 3.3V TL9018: 1.5V YES Does the X7201 oscillate at 27 MHz? NO NO NO Check the AC adaptor. YES Check F9001, Q9003 thru -4, Q9008, IC9001 thru -4 and their peripheral parts. Replace any of them as required. Check the crystal oscillator and IC7208, and replace any of them as required. YES Check the following parts and their peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. IC7806: NAND flash memory IC7802 thru -5: DDR3 memory IC7208: Host LSI Flowchart 2 No video signal from the HDMI terminal. Replace the TV cable with new one. Is the problem solved? YES TV or cable defective. NO Is the voltage at Pin 19 of SC7201 above 2V? NO Check to see if the 5V output is at Pin 1 of IC7203. If not, replace this IC with new one. NO Check to see if the 3.3V output is at Pin 5 of IC7202. If not, replace this IC with new one. NO Check IC7208. Replace this IC as required. YES Is there the 3.3V input at Pins 1 and 8 of IC7201 as well as at Pin 14 of IC7204? YES Is there the signal output along the data line (R7288/R7289)? YES Check SC7201 for poor contact or poor welding. 4–1 BD-HP90U Flowchart 3 No audio from the coaxial digital terminal. Is there the digital audio signal output at TL7295? NO Check Pin 3 of J7202. Replace this parts as required. YES Check IC7208 and its peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. Flowchart 4 Failure to update the software even with the USB memory in its terminal. Or BD-LIVE malfunctioning. Replace the USB memory and check again the updating. Does the USB system function? NO Is the 5V voltage applied to Pin 1 of J1201? YES Check IC7208 and its peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. YES NO USB memory defective. Is the 5V output fed to Pin 1 of IC7207? YES Check P1202, P7202, connection cables and soldering condition. Replace any of them as required. NO Is the voltage at Pin 4 of IC7207 at high level? YES Is the 5V voltage applied art Pin 5 of IC7207? YES Check IC7207 and its peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. 4–2 NO NO Check IC7208 and its peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. Check IC7208 and its peripheral circuits. Replace any of them as required. BD-HP90U Flowchart 5 Failure to access the Internet through the Ethernet terminal. Does the system function even with a new cable in place? NO Cable defective. YES Does the signal come to Pins 1, 2, 3 and 6 of J7201? YES Check J7201 for poor contact. Replace as required. Does the system function even with a new modular connection cable in place between P7202 and wireless LAN port? YES Does the 5V signal come to Pin 1 of P7202? NO Cable defective.
